Wike, Fubara Camps Close Ranks as Rivers Reconciliation Gains Momentum

Political allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the camp of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, appear to be closing ranks as efforts to end the prolonged political rift in the state gather momentum.
The development followed a meeting between Fubara and members of the Magnus Abe-led reconciliation committee of the Rainbow Coalition at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt, on Sunday.
It was the committee’s second meeting with the governor within two weeks as efforts intensify to reunite the rival political factions.
Chairman of the committee, Magnus Abe, said none of the members would be victimised or discriminated against because of their past political disagreements, stressing that everyone would be treated equally as members of the original political family.
Abe said the committee had been holding consultations to develop modalities for working together and restore peace in Rivers State.
He described the latest development as a major shift in the political atmosphere, saying the people of Rivers State would soon witness the benefits of the reconciliation.
“We are all in agreement, and we have made very good progress. Our coming together signals a significant shift in the political atmosphere of the state,” Abe said.
The APC South-South Publicity Secretary, Samuel Nwanosike, who was part of the delegation, also expressed optimism over the reconciliation process.
Nwanosike thanked Fubara for receiving the committee, saying the meetings showed that the political family had genuinely reunited.
“I’m so excited. The last meeting went well. Today’s meeting went extraordinarily well, and it shows clearly to the people of Rivers State that the family is back; sincerely back,” he said.
Another stakeholder, Ambrose Nwuzi, said those who supported Fubara had agreed to embrace peace, describing the previous disagreements as part of the challenges that occur in human relationships.
He added that the reconciliation process was awaiting the final endorsement of Wike.
“Our leader has spoken, and our overall leader has equally spoken and accepted that there is a need for all of us to reconcile. I can tell you that we have reconciled,” Nwuzi said.
Punch reports that other delegation included the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, and Tamosisi Jaja, among others.
