Months After Cancer Recovery, Nollywood Actress Temitope Osoba Dies at 40

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular Yoruba Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba, who passed away at the age of 40.

News of her death was made public on Wednesday by fellow Nollywood actor Alesh Sanni, who shared the heartbreaking announcement in an emotional post on his Instagram page.

Paying tribute to the late actress, Sanni revealed that he had been unable to sleep after hearing the sad news, describing Osoba as a cherished sister and recalling the beautiful memories they shared together.

He wrote, “Couldn’t sleep since last night, it’s well. Rest in peace my dearest sister, Temitope Osoba. We had amazing time and good memories together, till we meet again. I really dunno what to say mehn, gosh.”

Another actress, Adeyemo Seilat, also expressed her grief in a tribute shared via Instagram, lamenting the loss of another young life.

“Sigh! I hate to hear about the death of young people. Life is vanity! Rest in peace Tope Osoba. May you find eternal rest,” she wrote.

As of the time this report was filed, the cause of Osoba’s death had not been officially disclosed.

Her passing comes nearly two years after she publicly revealed her battle with cancer and appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance to support her treatment.

Following her recovery, Osoba announced her return to the movie industry in a heartfelt message to fans on August 4, 2025. She described surviving cancer as a transformative experience that inspired her to rebuild both her life and career.

In her statement, she wrote:

“Dear beloved fans, supporters, and loved ones, I’m Temitope Osoba, and after my cancer experience, I’m excited to announce my reintroduction. This journey has been a turning point, leading to my rebranding, reshaping, and rebuilding. I’m emerging stronger, more resilient, and more passionate about sharing my story and inspiring others.”

She explained that the next phase of her life would focus on healing, personal growth, and empowering others, while also using her platform to promote cancer awareness and offer hope to people facing similar health challenges.

Osoba also thanked her management team for their unwavering support throughout her treatment and recovery. She disclosed that she was open to acting opportunities, brand endorsements, and event collaborations as she worked to revive her career.

Widely recognised for her performances in Yoruba-language Nollywood films, Temitope Osoba earned the admiration of colleagues and fans for her talent and dedication to the industry.
