CEMTV Begins Broadcasting in Port Harcourt, Boosting Media Development in Niger Delta

The media landscape in Rivers State has expanded with the official launch of CEMTV, a privately owned television station expected to strengthen news dissemination, promote local content and widen access to credible information across the Niger Delta and beyond.

The television station officially commenced broadcasting during an inauguration ceremony in Port Harcourt attended by government officials, media practitioners, traditional rulers, business leaders, community stakeholders and invited guests.

Founded by Dr. K.C. Mac Anthony, CEMTV is entering Nigeria’s competitive broadcast industry with a blend of conventional television programming and digital broadcasting aimed at reaching audiences both within the country and in the diaspora.

The station will broadcast news, current affairs, sports, entertainment, educational programmes and community-focused content, while also leveraging digital platforms to make its programmes accessible beyond traditional television audiences through www.cemtv.live.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police described the establishment of CEMTV as a positive investment in public communication and civic engagement.
He commended Dr. Mac Anthony for investing in the media sector and urged the station to uphold professionalism, fairness and ethical journalism in carrying out its mandate.

According to the police commissioner, responsible journalism remains an essential partner in promoting public awareness, supporting security efforts and encouraging peaceful coexistence within communities.

He noted that credible information plays an important role in helping citizens make informed decisions and strengthening democratic governance.
In his address, Dr. Mac Anthony said CEMTV was established to provide a platform for credible journalism while contributing to the development of local content and creating opportunities for media professionals in Rivers State.

He observed that advances in technology have significantly changed television broadcasting, making it necessary for media organisations to combine traditional broadcasting with digital platforms that allow viewers to access programmes anytime and from virtually anywhere.

According to him, the station is committed to delivering quality programming that reflects the aspirations, achievements and concerns of the people of Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta.

Industry stakeholders at the event described the emergence of CEMTV as another milestone for the region’s growing media and creative industries.

Over the years, Rivers State has remained one of Nigeria’s major centres for media, entertainment and communication, producing journalists, broadcasters, filmmakers and content creators who continue to make significant contributions to the country’s creative economy.

Observers believe the addition of CEMTV will further expand opportunities for journalists, presenters, producers, editors, camera operators, digital content creators and other professionals within the broadcasting sector.

Beyond employment opportunities, stakeholders say the station has the potential to provide greater visibility for businesses, entrepreneurs, cultural initiatives and community development programmes across the Niger Delta.

As media consumption increasingly shifts to digital platforms, broadcasters are embracing new technologies to reach audiences beyond terrestrial television.
Through www.cemtv.live, CEMTV will enable viewers to access its programmes online, extending its reach to Nigerians living outside Rivers State as well as members of the diaspora interested in developments from the region.

Media analysts say the integration of digital streaming into conventional broadcasting reflects the changing realities of the industry, where audiences now consume news and entertainment across smartphones, tablets, computers and smart televisions.

For the Niger Delta, where communities often seek greater visibility on national issues, the arrival of another indigenous broadcaster is expected to contribute to more inclusive storytelling and wider representation of regional perspectives.

The station’s programming is also expected to showcase the region’s economic activities, cultural heritage, youth development initiatives and investment opportunities while promoting constructive dialogue on issues affecting local communities.

Stakeholders further noted that private investments in broadcasting remain important to expanding media plurality, encouraging healthy competition and improving access to diverse sources of information.

As CEMTV begins full operations, expectations remain high that the station will uphold professional journalism while serving as a platform for education, entertainment and community engagement.

For Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta, the launch represents more than the arrival of another television station. It reflects growing confidence in the region’s media industry and reinforces the role of communication in driving development, accountability and social progress.

With its blend of traditional broadcasting and digital accessibility, CEMTV is poised to become another important voice in Nigeria’s evolving media landscape while bringing the stories, people and aspirations of the Niger Delta to wider audiences.
