DIG Pedro Visits Delta, Charges Officers To Police With Human Face

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, South-South geopolitical zone, DIG Daniel Sokari Pedro, has urged officers and men of the Delta State Police Command to police with a human face and respect the fundamental human rights of citizens.

DIG Pedro made this call during a working visit to the Command on Wednesday May 22, 2024.

Accompanied by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, AIG Arungwa Nwazue Udo, DIG Pedro met with stakeholders, officers, and men of the Command, emphasizing the importance of community partnership in policing.

A statement by State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said that the DIG Pedro, warned against extortion, abuse of human rights, and urged officers to brace up to security challenges while using their firearms judiciously.

“After a brief interaction with the Stakeholders, the DIG addressed officers and men of the command, warned them against extortion, abuse of human rights, and most importantly policing with a human face. He admonished them to brace up and meet up with the security challenges in the state, but while doing that, they should be mindful of the Fundamental Human Rights of the citizenry. He further emphasized the importance of knowing when to use their firearms in accordance with the extant rules of the force as stipulated in Force Order 237 and Force Order 88”.

DIG Pedro who is the most senior Police officer in the South-South region (supervising DIG South-South), however commended the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, for his efforts in fighting crime and lauded the achievements of the Command.

He also paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Delta State, RT Hon (Elder) Sheriff F. Oborevwori, who promised to support the Police with vehicles and appreciated the Inspector General of Police for recognizing deserving officers in the state.

The visit of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology of the Nigeria Police Force, was aimed at boosting the morale of officers, enhancing Police community relations, and also assuring residents in the State of the Force commitment to ensuring a safer Delta state.
