The House of Representatives has asked the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris, to arrest and prosecute Okoi Obono-Obla, the senior special assistant to the president on prosecution for allegedly being in possession of a fake West African Examination Council (WAEC) result.

The lawmakers also recommended the withdrawal of his law degree and law school certificate obtained with the result, The Cable reports.

The House made the recommendation on Thursday, December 20, when it adopted the report of its committee that investigated the special presidential investigative panel for the recovery of public property (SPIP), which is headed by Obono-Obla.

Findings by the committee stated that the O’level result belonging to presidential aide had irregularities.

The investigation into Obono-Obla’s WAEC result followed a petition to the House by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA).

The presidential aide is accused of using the alleged questionable result to gain admission into the University of Jos where he studied and subsequently graduated from the Nigerian Law School.

The deputy WAEC registrar, Femi Ola, had told the House of Representatives committee that available evidence showed that Obono-Obla’s results was altered and therefore invalid.

BigPen Online recalls that Obono-Obla had few days ago explained why the panel submitted the names of 39 alleged treasury looters which reportedly including name of deputy senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, former Senate President, David Mark, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, and the Tumsah brothers, among others to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) as those restricted from traveling out  of the country.

He said that the reason was to restrict the movement of the suspects under investigation out of the country pending when it is time to charge them.

Mr Obono-Obla, in a statement obtained by BigPen Online on Tuesday, said that the action was in accordance with the provisions of the Executive Order No 6 of 2018.
