The group, Niger Delta Political Watchdog, (NDPW) has urged Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state to institute the best councilors award in the 25 Local Government Area of the state to encourage grassroots developmental effort of the local representatives of the people.

The group in a statement signed by its President, Prince Onoriode James and Secretary, Comrade Kelvin Osita on Thursday, said “we have taking pain to carefully study the 250 Councilors in the 25 Local Government Council of Delta State even in the face of the harsh economic reality and we believe that as a former councilor and a council chairman your excellency will appreciate that the council remain the bedrock of the political advancement of any state or country.

“The local government council as the third tier of government has constitutional roles as the closest arm of government to the grassroot where future leaders of this country can be nurtured and groomed to become better leaders of tomorrow and so by instituting an award for best councilors at the local government council will help to galvanized the local administration to be more people oriented and development driven.

“Only recently your brother governor of Ekiti State Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose instituted an award for best primary school teachers in a Ekiti State, to us in the Niger Delta Political Watchdog that is one of the brightest decision that Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose has taking that has the capacity to grow education in Ekiti State, encourage discipline and hard work among teachers that will in turn encourage high educational productivity.
