The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational successes in its ongoing campaign against crime and criminal activities, resulting in the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of a locally made revolver pistol, dangerous weapons, and ten bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

Suspected illicit drugs

‎In a statement issued on Saturday, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that three suspects were arrested during a routine patrol operation carried out by operatives attached to the Asaba Area Command.

‎According to the statement, the surveillance team, while on patrol behind the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) premises in Asaba at about 5:30 a.m. on May 30, intercepted three individuals identified as Musa Sule, 22, Moses Sunday, 26, and Osama Ibrahim, 25.

‎”The suspects were subjected to a search based on reasonable suspicion, during which officers recovered a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons. The trio was immediately taken into custody, while the recovered exhibits were secured for further investigation.”

‎In a separate operation, operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) arrested two suspected drug traffickers and recovered ten bags of substances believed to be Indian hemp.

‎The suspects, identified as Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, popularly known as “Big Joe,” were apprehended at about 4:00 a.m. on May 29 during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway.

‎Police said the suspects were travelling in an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE when officers intercepted the vehicle.

‎ A thorough search reportedly led to the discovery of ten bags containing suspected Indian hemp concealed inside the vehicle.

‎Preliminary investigations revealed that the illicit substances were being transported from Edo State to Awka in Anambra State before the operation was foiled by the police.

‎Meanwhile, the suspects have been taken into custody, while investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the criminal network and identify other individuals linked to the illegal drug trade.

‎Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime across the state.

‎He warned individuals involved in illegal possession of firearms, drug trafficking, cultism, and other criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law.

‎The police further assured residents of Delta State of their continued determination to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
