‎Delta Police Intercept Massive Drug Haul, Arrest Three Suspected Traffickers ‎

Police in Delta State has arrested three suspected drug traffickers and recovered large quantities of illicit drugs during separate intelligence-led operations across the state.

The arrest came weeks after the State Police Command intensified its campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse across the state.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe,‎ in a statement issued on Friday, disclosed that operatives of the Special Enquiry Unit on stop-and-search duty at the Asaba end of the First Niger Bridge intercepted a Mercedes truck with registration number KRV 837 ZN on June 3, 2026.

Illicit drug

The vehicle was driven by 47-year-old Obinna Nwosu, a resident of Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

‎Police said the suspect initially claimed he was transporting plumbing materials. However, a thorough search of the truck uncovered a large cache of prohibited substances, including 13,000 sachets of 100mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of 225mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of Swinol, 300 sachets of Rohypnol, 60 sachets of Codeine Phosphate tablets, and 100 tablets of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as “Molly‎”

The suspect has been taken into custody, while investigators are working to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the illicit consignment,” he said

In a separate operation carried out on the same day, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected drug distribution centre in Alegbo Community, Owa-Alero, located in Ika North East Local Government Area.

‎During the raid, two suspects, identified as Henry Edward and Okwudili Kingsley, were arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that the pair allegedly operated a drug distribution network within the community.

Recovered from the suspects were five gallons of a fermented cannabis mixture popularly known as “Monkey Tail,” along with substantial quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.

‎”The suspects and the recovered exhibits remain in police custody as investigations continue.” he stated.

‎Commending the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and organised crime.

‎He noted that the proliferation of illicit drugs continues to fuel criminal activities such as cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent offences, urging members of the public to support law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information to aid crime prevention and detection.
