The Osun State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into a shooting incident in Osogbo that claimed the life of a 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf.

Yusuf, a resident of the Oke-Ayepe area of Osogbo, was reportedly shot by suspected hoodlums at Itaolokan, Osogbo, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the incident occurred shortly after Governor Ademola Adeleke, accompanied by his nephew and Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun.

The police said that after the visit, a man identified as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged”, allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was resisted by members of the singer’s security team.

The confrontation reportedly attracted other suspected gang members, who temporarily blocked the palace entrance and obstructed the movement of the governor’s convoy. The convoy eventually left the area safely, according to the police.

The suspected gang members were said to have subsequently left the area. The police alleged that shortly afterwards, they shot Yusuf at Itaolokan.

Police operatives who responded to the incident found Yusuf lying in a pool of blood and immediately rushed him to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. However, he was pronounced dead by doctors on duty.

The command said it has intensified efforts to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

The Commissioner of Police (Election), Osun State Command, CP Samuel Etaifo, condemned the killing and assured residents that the command would deploy all available resources to apprehend those responsible.

The police urged members of the public with relevant information to report to the nearest police station or use the command’s official communication channels.

The command also appealed for calm and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, assuring the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
