67 Urhobo Youths Get PTI’s Prize After Undergoing Free Computer Training

The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), the foremost oil and gas technological institution in Nigeria, has awarded sixty-seven youths its prestigious prize on Computer Competency Skills Acquisition.

Principal and Chief Executive Officer of the institution, Dr. Henry A. Adimula, who unveiled the prizes at the institution lecture Theatre, said  that the training was part of the institution’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to its host communities.

He said that the 67 beneficiaries were  drawn from the twenty-four kingdoms of the Urhobo nation under the auspices of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) world-wide.

According to him, of the 67 trainees, 10 made distinction, 20 recorded credits while 37 got merit.

Dr. Adimula, however assured that PTI will continue with the training, and advised the beneficiaries to build a career in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry.

He said that the essence of empowering the youths of its host communities was to make them self-reliant rather than being seekers of job.

“I am very confident that the trainees were well developed within the three month duration of the training. They were trained in Computer Appreciation and Internet Literacy, Word Processing, Presentation Skills using PowerPoint, Spreadsheet and Data Management, Graphic Design- CorelDraw XB and Laptop Repairs and Maintenance. Out of the 67 trainees, 10 came out with distinction. 20 credit and 37 with merit

“This fit for-purpose training is in tandem with PIT’s motto – for ‘Skill, Service and Progress’. I urge you all to imbibe the Institute’s philosophy to put the skills acquired during the training to practice. In other places it may take up to one and a half years to acquire these skills, but here in PTI it is completed in three months.

According to him, “ICT today drives world industries and with this training, you can build a career and excel in life using the skills you have acquired. I charge you to be great ambassador of this institution and positively impact society with the skills acquired.”

To the President General, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), he said, “I say a big thank you for finding time out of your busy schedule to attend the ceremony. Your presence is clear indication of your interest in the progress and development of the Petroleum Training Institute. And to all the trainees, I heartily congratulate you on the successful completion of the training and wish you success in your future endeavours.

Meanwhile, the President-General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide, Olorogun Moses Taiga, has commended the institution for training the youths and assured that the Union would jealously protect and partner the institution for further development.

Olorogun Taiga, represented by UPU’s First Vice President, Chief (Captain) Anthony Onoarigho, said the training is in line with UPU current leadership to positively engage and empower youths of the Urhobo tribe.

President of the UPU youth-wing, Ovie Ebireri, congratulated the graduands and urged them to “translate the training into self-employment”.

The ceremony saw the presentation of awards to the PTI principal, Adimula and registrar, Mr. Clement Siakpere by the UPU youth-wing for approving the free training for the youths.

The best three trainees, Abednego Bigila, Oboghene Ibini and Susan Ubom, later received brand new laptop computers, from the Ukoko Emoto Urhobo Re PTI, a group of Urhobo workers, in the institution.
