5 Arrested as Delta Police Recover Pistol, 10 Bags of Suspected Indian Hemp

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational successes in its ongoing campaign against crime and criminal activities, resulting in the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of a locally made revolver pistol, dangerous weapons, and ten bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

Suspected illicit drugs
In a statement issued on Saturday, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that three suspects were arrested during a routine patrol operation carried out by operatives attached to the Asaba Area Command.
According to the statement, the surveillance team, while on patrol behind the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) premises in Asaba at about 5:30 a.m. on May 30, intercepted three individuals identified as Musa Sule, 22, Moses Sunday, 26, and Osama Ibrahim, 25.
”The suspects were subjected to a search based on reasonable suspicion, during which officers recovered a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons. The trio was immediately taken into custody, while the recovered exhibits were secured for further investigation.”
In a separate operation, operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) arrested two suspected drug traffickers and recovered ten bags of substances believed to be Indian hemp.
The suspects, identified as Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, popularly known as “Big Joe,” were apprehended at about 4:00 a.m. on May 29 during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway.
Police said the suspects were travelling in an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE when officers intercepted the vehicle.
A thorough search reportedly led to the discovery of ten bags containing suspected Indian hemp concealed inside the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the illicit substances were being transported from Edo State to Awka in Anambra State before the operation was foiled by the police.
Meanwhile, the suspects have been taken into custody, while investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the criminal network and identify other individuals linked to the illegal drug trade.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime across the state.
He warned individuals involved in illegal possession of firearms, drug trafficking, cultism, and other criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law.
The police further assured residents of Delta State of their continued determination to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
