Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have successfully foiled a planned kidnapping operation in Kogi State, neutralizing a suspected terrorist and recovering weapons during a tactical ambush operation in Lokoja Local Government Area.

‎According to the operation, carried out on Friday, was based on credible intelligence indicating that a group of terrorists was planning to launch kidnapping attacks in Jakura II Community and its environs.

‎Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops deployed to a suspected crossing point used by the criminals along the Old Obajana–Tajimi Road, where they laid an ambush to intercept the attackers.

‎During the operation, the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. One of the suspects was neutralized, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.

‎A follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bandolier, and several mobile phones.

‎Meanwhile, Military authorities said the recovered items further confirmed the group’s involvement in kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area.

‎The Nigerian Army also noted that the successful operation underscores the commitment of troops of the 12 Brigade to sustaining offensive actions against terrorists and criminal elements threatening the safety of residents.

‎The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and combat effectiveness. He assured residents that the Army would continue to intensify operations to dismantle criminal networks and maintain security across the state.

‎General Sidi also urged members of the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information that could assist in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.
