Ratification Convention Will Hold Despite Alleged Threats from Wike – PDP

‎The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it will resist every attempt to intimidate or obstruct its planned presidential candidate ratification convention scheduled to hold in Abuja on Saturday.

‎This was contained in a statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Interim National Working Committee, on Friday, 29 of May, in Abuja

‎According to the statement issued by the party’s Interim National Working Committee, the PDP alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, threatened to shut down the A Class Event Centre if the venue hosted the party’s event.

‎The party said it had been informed by the management of the event centre about the alleged threat linked to the planned ratification ceremony for the presidential candidature of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

‎ “The PDP had fully paid for the venue and completed all necessary arrangements for the event, including notifying relevant security agencies.”

‎The party also disclosed that its lawyers had been instructed to formally remind the management of the venue of the contractual agreement already in place.
‎The PDP maintained that the special convention would proceed as scheduled on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the A Class Event Centre by 10 a.m.

‎The opposition party argued that Nigeria is governed by law and warned against what it described as attempts to suppress political opposition through intimidation and abuse of power.

‎It further stated that no provision of the law empowers the FCT Minister to determine which political events can be held or where they should take place, describing such actions as inconsistent with democratic principles.

‎Meanwhile, the statement also accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of struggling to distance himself from what it termed “emperor-like powers.”

‎The PDP called on party leaders, National Executive Committee members, and other stakeholders across the country to attend the event as planned.
