PSG Defeat Arsenal on Penalties to Win Back-to-Back Champions League Titles

Arsenal’s pursuit of a historic first Champions League trophy ended in bitter disappointment at the Puskás Aréna on Saturday, as reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain triumphed 3-2 in a tense penalty shootout following a 1-1 deadlock after extra time.

The Gunners enjoyed a dream start in Hungary when Kai Havertz struck early, giving Mikel Arteta’s men an immediate advantage.

However, the French giants clawed their way back into the tie during the second half, with Ousmane Dembélé coolly dispatching a penalty to draw PSG level.

With neither team able to break the stalemate through the remainder of regulation or a grueling 30 minutes of extra time, Europe’s ultimate prize was decided from 12 yards.

While Viktor Gyökeres and Declan Rice successfully converted their spot-kicks for Arsenal, a series of costly misses proved undoing for the North London side.

Meanwhile, PSG showed nerves of steel, as Gonçalo Ramos, Désiré Doué, and Achraf Hakimi all scored to secure the silverware.

Despite a valiant effort and a resolute defensive showcase for the majority of the evening, Arteta’s squad was left devastated, while PSG celebrated back-to-back European titles and solidified their era of dominance.
