JUST IN: DSS Bows To Pressure, Produces All 12 Igboho’s Men In Court

Nigeria’s secret police, otherwise known as Department of State Services (DSS) may have bowed to intense pressure from both national and international forces as they, on Wednesday, brought to court all twelve men of Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho.

BIGPENNGR reports that the suspects were arrested at the Ibadan home of Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Igboho on 1st July, 2021 after the DSS onslaught at the residence of the activist.

Recalls that DSS had failed three times despite a subsisting court order to produced Igboho’s men in court.

The 12 suspects had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja for the enforcement of their rights after being held in custody over a month without trial.

They are seeking their unconditional release by the secret police who arrested and detained them after the raid on Igboho’s home.

Prior to today’s hearing,  Pelumi Olajengbesi, senior lawyer to the suspects, had applied for the Court for leave to allow him amend the list of names of the applicants to reflect their correct names.

At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, counsel to the DSS, David Awo told the Court that the service is not opposed to the terms of bail for eight of the applicants, but expressed strong exception to the other four.

He told the Court that the level of involvement of four of the applicants in the alleged acts of arms stockpiling and other criminal activities is high as investigations have revealed and therefore urged the Court to refuse to grant bail to those four.

The names of the four which the DSS described as key supporters of the proposed Oduduwa Republic, are Amudat Babatunde, Okoyemi Tajudeen, Abideen Shittu and Jamiu Noah Oyetunji.

The respondents lawyer also expressed doubt about the said applicants availability for trial in the event of their being admitted to bail.
