Controversy Trails Ekiti Guber Campaign as Gov Oyebanji’s Camp Tosses Bread from Convoy to Electorates

on

‎A viral video showing residents scrambling for loaves of bread allegedly thrown from vehicles branded with the All Progressives Congress (APC) logo has sparked widespread criticism ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.

‎The footage, reportedly captured by a dashboard camera and circulated on social media on Thursday evening, shows scores of people rushing to collect bread tossed from an APC-branded bus and a sport utility vehicle (SUV).

‎The incident has triggered intense reactions online, with many critics describing the scene as degrading and reflective of the economic challenges facing many Nigerians. Several commentators compared the distribution method to feeding animals, arguing that it undermines the dignity of citizens.

‎Others linked the development to the prevailing economic hardship under APC-led governments, claiming the footage highlighted the level of poverty and desperation among residents. Some social media users also suggested that the situation reflected what they described as years of poor governance and voter dependency on political handouts.

‎The APC has previously distributed food items, including rice, noodles and other palliatives, during periods of economic difficulty and political campaigns. However, the manner in which the bread was distributed in the viral video has become the focus of public debate.

‎As of the time of filing this report, neither the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji nor officials of the APC had issued a statement addressing the controversy.
