‎FG Deducts N500bn from States to Fund Emergency Anti-Banditry Operations ‎

The Federal Government deducted approximately N500 billion from the May 2026 Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue pool to finance emergency security interventions aimed at combating banditry and insecurity across Nigeria’s North-West and North-Central regions.

‎The deduction was made before the distribution of N3.395 trillion in revenue among the three tiers of government, according to details emerging from the latest allocation process.

‎The security allocation forms part of a series of pre-distribution adjustments, including N250 billion earmarked for military operations and N252 billion set aside for state infrastructure projects.

‎Following the deductions, a total of about N2.3 trillion was shared among the Federal Government, state governments, and local government councils. The Federal Government received N818.7 billion, while state governments were allocated N759.1 billion. Local government councils received N534.3 billion from the distributable revenue.

‎Government sources said the security funds are intended to strengthen ongoing efforts to tackle armed banditry, kidnappings, and other violent crimes that have continued to threaten communities and economic activities in several parts of the country.

‎However, the development has sparked calls for greater transparency and accountability in the management of security-related expenditures.

‎Economist Ayo Teriba urged authorities to provide clear details on how the funds would be utilized, particularly regarding the procurement of security equipment, deployment of personnel, and support for forest rangers and other security initiatives.

‎Meanwhile, reactions on social media have been mixed, with some Nigerians expressing concern over the effectiveness of previous security allocations and questioning whether the latest intervention fund would be properly managed.
