Nigerian Anti-Corruption War Got A Boost As Buhari Signs Extradition Agreement With UAE

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday signed several agreements, among them was an extradition treaty with United Arab Emirates (UAE), as part of efforts to rid Nigeria of corruption.
The President, also ratified three other agreements covering legal assistance in criminal, civil and commercial matters, and extradition.
The others treaties are Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters; Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Civil and Commercial Matters; and Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons.
President Buhari described the development as an important step towards the delivery of the nation’s anti-corruption and economic diversification vision.
The President gave the hint via his twitter handle and directed all relevant government agencies to commence immediate implementation of the agreements.
In a series of tweets , the President wrote, “I’ve just signed Instruments of Ratification for a number of agreements covering AntiCorruption, Tax Admin & Intellectual Property Protection.
“Today’s ratification of Agreements is an important step, in line with the delivery of our Anti-Corruption & Economic Diversification Vision.
“I have directed all relevant Government agencies and bodies to commence immediate implementation of these Agreements.”
In a similar development, the President signed the instruments of ratification of five other agreements.
They include the “Charter for the Lake Chad Basin between Nigeria, Cameroun, Central African Republic, Libya, Niger and the Republic of Chad”; as well as the ‘African Tax Administration Forum Agreement on Mutual Assistance in Tax Matters”.
He also signed the “World Intellectual Property Organisation Performances and Phonograms Treaty”, and the “World Intellectual Property Organisation Treaty on Audio-Visual Performances”.
The fifth agreement signed by the President was the “Marrakesh Treaty to facilitate access to published works for persons who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise”.
