Army Officer Embroiled In Controversy Surrounding ex-Corps Member’s Death In Delta

A shocking and disturbing incident has unfolded in Delta State, where a 35-year-old woman, Emem Augustine Edet, was found abandoned along the Okuokoko-Ughelli Expressway on September 13, 2024, despite efforts to revive her, she tragically passed away after vomiting blood, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and suspicions.
Chief Executive Officer of a Delta-based NGO, the Nigerian Child Welfare Fund (NCWF), Mr Joshua Omorere, who gave newsmen hint about the incident said that Emem was discovered lying by the roadside, prompting Good Samaritans to call the police.
He disclosed that while passerby were trying to revive the lady, one Master Warrant Officer Adam Mohammed, attached to Season III Brigade in Asaba, arrived at the scene, claiming Emem was his girlfriend and offering to take her to the hospital. He said that the lady was fine when he dropped her.
According to the witness, the soldier man suggested that he would take the lady to the hospital in his vehicle, but was refused by those around who insisted for the police to arrive the scene.

“On getting to the police station, MW Mohammed introduced himself as the lady’s girlfriend, “then took her into his vehicle and drove off.
Hear him; “On the September 13, 2024, a young lady was abandoned along the road. She was helplessly lying down on the road so people gathered thinking of ways to be of help to her.
“We took the lady off the road and we were trying to see how we could give her water and malt to regain her strength.
“We don’t know who abandoned her all we knew was that a vehicle dumped her there and left.
“As we were trying to help her, I suggested we call the police which we did. While the police were on their way, a young man on a military uniform came and was asking what the matter was. He suggested we take her to the hospital but we said no that the police should get here first.
“He called my friend aside and told him that he dropped the girl and that the girl was okay when he did. So we told him to wait for the police. The police came and took both of them to the station.
“On getting there, the man told the police that he is a military man and that the girl was his girlfriend. That was how he took the girl to his vehicle and drove off.”
Narrating further, Omorere said they had earlier called the lady’s brothers to inform them of what is happening.
The brothers called the lady’s phone but Mohammad picked up the phone and informed them that he was taking the girl to Federal Medical Center in Asaba and asked them to meet him there.
When they got to Asaba, Mohammed then introduced himself to the brothers as a good Samaritan who was just trying to help their sister.
Meeting with the doctor, the brothers were asked to get medication to wash the lady’s private part because she had several injuries in her private part.
Meanwhile, Mr Omorere said that all his effort to get the police to investigate the case proved abortive.
According to him while trying to get details on the case from the police, the DPO of Ebrumede Police Station asked him what his interest in the case was.
He was able to get across to Mohammed’s boss, Major O.A Jewota who confirmed that he was aware of the case.
He added that before the lady passed away at about 3:00a.m this morning, Mohammed didn’t show up at the hospital to see Emem.
“Before then, we took the girl’s SIM card from her phone and put it inside another phone and called her brothers. They were in Calabar and they said they are coming to Warri.
“While they were calling, the army man picked up the phone and asked them to come to Federal Medical Hospital Asaba and that he is taking her there.
“So we told them to come to Warri that the man looked suspicious. They got to Warri on the 14th, came to my house. I then put a call across to Asaba to verify if the girl was there. I verified that she was there and I asked them to proceed to Asaba and to take her to the emergency ward before looking for the soldier.
“When they got there, the doctors were asking the guys their relationship with the girl and they told him. The doctor then prescribed something to them to buy so they can wash her private part that she has serious injury in her private part.
“After buying what they were asked to buy, they saw the army man sitting in his vehicle in the hospital premise.
According to the account, Mohammed’s story unraveled when Emem’s brothers arrived, revealing inconsistencies in his account.
“He then told them that he was helping the girl as a good Samaritan. He didn’t tell them what he told us in Warri.
“He immediately drove off and never came back. So on the 16th which was on Monday, I asked the boys to go to ‘A’ Division, Asaba to report the matter. On getting there, the policemen refused to attend to the boys. They argued and argued. It took the DPO who wasn’t around to call them and asked them to register their reports and investigate.
“They took statement from the brothers but refused to visit the hospital to investigate the case.
“I was worried and thinking of how we can get the soldier. I called the Area Commander in Warri to report the incident to him and he forwarded the DPO’s number the DPO of Ebrumede Police Station to me.
“When I called the DPO, he kept postponing before he finally asked me to come over. When I got to his office, he wasn’t there. I called to tell him I was in his office but he wasn’t around and that was how he was shouting and asking me what is my interest in the matter.
“I was surprised and asked him if it’s because the girl is a nobody. He then told me to go and meet one officer, whom I have forgotten his name that he will attend to the issue and that was how he ended the call.
“Meanwhile, because I couldn’t get anything from the police, I started doing my own investigation and discovered that the soldier’s name is Adam Mohammed attached to season three Brigade Asaba. His boss’ name is Major O.A. Jewota.
“I got the boss’ phone number and that of the Muhammed. I put a call across to the boss and reported the issue to him and he said he is aware of the issue and that Muhammad claimed that the girl is his girlfriend. That he would call Muhammed to make sure he is available and then he would get back to me.
“The Oga got back to me several times. till today, we didn’t see Muhammed. As I’m talking to you, the young lady died this morning after vomiting blood.”
Emem’s condition worsened, with pus oozing from her private parts, forcing her family to move her to Calabar for treatment.
According to Stonix News, the brother of the lady, revealed that before she died, pus was oozing out of her private part to the extent that she had to be on diapers”.
Uwem also said that his sister was squatting with MWO Mohammed because she had no place to stay in Asaba while she was hustling to make ends meet.
This, he said, was contrary to what MWO Mohammed told them when they met him at FMC, Asaba.
He narrated how they took Emem from Asaba down to Calabar, Cross River State because they couldn’t meet up with the expenses of staying in Asaba for Emem’s treatment.
He also added that before she died, Emem kept saying that Mohammed was responsible for what was happening to her.
“As of yesterday, she was breathing through oxygen and she passed away early this morning. The only news we heard at Asaba was that she had sugar. But we didn’t see that in the test report.
“My sister kept saying that the man that took her to the hospital is responsible for what happened to her. She however, refused to tell us what exactly the man did to her. The only thing the army told us was that he was the one that helped my sister. He didn’t tell us he dropped my sister by the roadside at Warri. The only thing he told was that he helped her that she was sick.
“We had to leave Asaba because of the expenses. We had the borrow money to transport ourselves to Calabar. We paid close to N60,000 to Calabar.
“The situation became worse on our way to Calabar. Her breathing changed and she wasn’t breathing like a normal human being again. She was restless throughout that Saturday because she couldn’t breathe. She was complaining that something was walking in her stomach and her stomach became swollen. She is 35 years old and she is the second born.
“I just called the army officer some minutes ago. and he said he is coming back but I haven’t told her that she has died. He still thinks we are in Asaba. We didn’t tell him we had left Asaba.
Emem’s family disputes Mohammed’s claim that he was helping her as a Good Samaritan.
“I am strongly suspecting that man. She finished service in 2021. She wasn’t in Warri, she was in Asaba. She was staying and hustling in Asaba. She had mentioned that she was squatting with this army man because she hasn’t gotten a permanent place to stay. But the man is claiming that he just met my sister that he hadn’t known her.
“I don’t understand how he went to Warri and had to leave her by the roadside. I am suspecting that the only reason he went back to my sister was because of his son card that was in my sister’s phone.
“My sister cannot just die like that. I need to know why she died. She has suffered, even the school she went, she suffered; only for her to end it this way. She vomited blood before she gave up the ghost.
“My sister complained to my elder brother that she has been feeling some pus coming out from her private part for some time. She was using pampers. The army man was framing everything on diabetes and infection.
“She even said she doesn’t know they went to Warri. She even asked the man, why he took her to Warri but the man couldn’t explain.”
Mohammed’s conflicting statements raise suspicions about his involvement in Emem’s abandonment and death.
MW Mohammed’s boss, Major O.A Jewota when contacted by Stonix News, disclosed that the said Mohammed told him that he met Emem the day he took her to the hospital and that he had no prior knowledge of her.
He said, according to MW Mohammed, he said the brother of the lady called and they spoke and that the lady is responding to treatment. I also called one of the family to call to find out. Mohammed told me that he tried to help the girl.
“He said he saw the girl on the roadside that day and tried to assist her. Mohammed is in pass right now and he is coming next week. I will get back to you.”
