Delta LGA Polls: ‘PDP-dominated DSIEC Can’t Conduct Credible Election’ – APC Protests, Boycotts Election In Warri South, Ughelli North

on

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Warri South Local Government Area has boycotted the local government election, citing irregularities and bias by the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC).

APC Chairman in Warri South, Mr. Mario Owumi, announced the decision, stating: “We are not violent, we don’t want to break any laws… We are peacefully protesting and saying strongly that the DSIEC is a disappointment. They are irresponsible, they have disappointed themselves once again.”

Owumi alleged that the DSIEC denied them access to election materials and that the PDP agent failed to show up, while PDP members were seen inside the council.

He added: “We know that the council belongs to us, we built this council with our money. Whatever we do here today will affect the government, and we don’t want crisis in our land.”

Austin Oribioye, Delta South Senatorial Chairman of APC, also condemned the election process, saying: “It’s a shame that we have a state like Delta State without resources… Delta State is in shambles. It’s a sham because of the kind of politics we play here that doesn’t allow fairness and equity to thrive.”

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North, Delta State, has also withdrawn from the local government elections, citing a lack of confidence in the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) to conduct a free and fair election.

The party alleged that DSIEC recruited PDP members as ad-hoc staff and that all board members are PDP card-carrying members, making them incapable of being neutral.

APC Ughelli North Chairman, Hon. Obakpororo Onoabedje, and Secretary, Barr. (Mrs.) Beauty Ubogun-Nze, said in a statement: “We believe that free and fair elections are integral to democratic processes… However, this is only possible where there is confidence and trust in the electoral process and its leadership, which we believe is lacking in DSIEC.”

The party also alleged that the governor and PDP leaders have undermined the independence of DSIEC, making it impossible for the commission to superintend a credible election.
