The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has suspended the Deputy Controller of Corrections, Abubakar Mohammed Sani, for his involvement in alleged recruitment scam.

BIGPENNGR.COM reports Sani’s suspension comes on backdrop of his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice Hadiza Sabi’u Shagari of the Federal High Court Katsina on a six count charge of conspiracy and obtaining by false pretense.

The Service on the approval of Civil Defence, Corrections, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) had on the 26th October, 2020 suspended the officer based on the charge of gross misconduct reported against him.

The Controller General of Corrections (CGC) Ja’afaru Ahmed in a statement said the Service will not take lightly any case of misconduct against any personnel of the service, a statement by lDCC Chuks Austin Njoku, the service Public Relations Officer, said.

It would be recalled that recently the CDCFIB approved the dismissal of seven (7) senior officers from the Service based on the recommendation of the Senior Officers Disciplinary Committee.

The statement, however, said that CGC has called on members of the Public with similar or any case against members of staff to forward such to the office for appropriate disciplinary actions.

“He assures the Public of the safe and humane custody of all those legally committed”, he said.

Meanwhile, in another development, the Nigerian Correctional Service said its attention has been drawn to a video trending on social media where a woman on the road with four children is claiming to be the so called wife of Peter Adedayo a Correctional Officer and further claimed not to have been paid any benefits by the Service.

“The Service wants the general Public to know that Peter Bamidele Adedayo a Senior Inspector of Corrections died on 2nd May, 2020 as against the claim by the said video that he died four (4) years ago.

“According to his official record of Service, Mrs Ruth Taiwo Adedayo is the Next-Of-Kin and upon his passing she has been paid what is due to him from the Nigerian Correctional Service Welfare Insurance Scheme (CWIS) and her application for benefit from the Nigerian Correctional Service Muti-Purpose Cooperative Society (COCOS) is scheduled to be paid in December, 2020.

“Other benefits like National Housing Fund and Gratuity will be paid by the relevant authorities on notice.

“The Controller General of Corrections Ja’afaru Ahmed wishes to reiterate that the Service has the welfare of personnel at centre of its policy thrust and would do anything within her power to ensure that both retired and the families of deceased personnel do not go through any form of difficulties in getting their claims”, the statement added.
