Rivers Police Rescue Kidnap Victim After ₦10.3m Ransom, Arrest Two Suspects

The Rivers State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim and arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate operating in parts of the state.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.
According to Agabe, the victim, identified as Hassan, was abducted on September 6, 2026, around the Fidelity Bank area of Garrison, Port Harcourt.
She said the victim was taken at gunpoint to Igbugulu Waterside, Borikiri, where he was held captive for three days before his release after his relatives reportedly paid ₦10.3 million in ransom.
Agabe said the Command received credible information about the abduction on September 7 and immediately deployed operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) to commence intelligence-led operations.
She said the operation subsequently led to the arrest of two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in the operation and disclosed that the gang comprises six members who used a white minibus during the operation,” Agabe said.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects were allegedly part of a gang terrorising some communities in Rivers State.
She assured that efforts had been intensified to track down the remaining members of the syndicate, who are currently at large, and bring them to justice.
