WUEDA DG Ejinyere Hosts Warri NUJ, Seeks Partnership on Development Reporting, Project Verification

The Director General of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, WUEDA, Hon. Prince Okakuro Godwin Ejinyere, has called on journalists to adopt development-oriented reporting and always verify allegations before publication.
Ejinyere made the call on Monday when the newly inaugurated executives of the Warri Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, paid a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters at the Delta State Development and Property Authority, DDPA, Effurun.
He said inaccurate reports and unverified claims could mislead the public and damage institutions, urging journalists to see themselves as partners in development.
“Journalists should uphold the ethics of the profession by properly investigating and verifying allegations before publication,” the WUEDA boss said.
According to him, WUEDA is committed to delivering quality infrastructure in line with acceptable engineering standards and will continue to ensure contractors comply with specifications.
Ejinyere noted that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains committed to restoring the lost glory of Warri, Uvwie and environs, adding that WUEDA’s interventions in drainage construction, road rehabilitation and other infrastructure are part of the administration’s MORE Agenda.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Warri Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire, described WUEDA as a performing interventionist agency whose activities have become increasingly visible across Warri and Uvwie.
Omafuaire, who led the delegation to formally introduce the new executives, said the chapel was ready to partner with WUEDA by giving adequate professional coverage to its activities.
Also speaking, former Chairman of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, and immediate past Chairman of the Warri Chapel, Comrade Victor Okpomor, commended WUEDA’s interventions but emphasized the need for sustained supervision and monitoring of projects to ensure contractors deliver value for public funds.
Responding, Ejinyere thanked the journalists for their observations, assuring that the agency will maintain strict supervision of ongoing projects.
Present at the meeting were WUEDA’s Director of Administration and Finance, Ochuko Mofe-Ojeke, Chief Accountant, Mrs. Roseline Okorigba, and other management staff.
Members of the new NUJ executive who accompanied the chairman included Vice Chairman, Comrade Francis Sadhere; Secretary, Comrade Edeki Igafe; Assistant Secretary, Comrade Samuel Ogude; Treasurer, Comrade Onyekachukwu Meluwa; Financial Secretary, Comrade Success Okuchemiya; and Auditor, Comrade Odeya Ogbetuo.
