PDP’s Fubara, Coasting Home To Victory In Rivers

Rivers Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Siminialaye Fubara, is coasting home to victory winning nine out of the nine local government areas so far declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the nine councils declared by the Rivers Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Delta State, Prof. Akpofurah Rum-rukeh, Fubara trounced the candidates of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Magnus Abe; All Progressives Congress (APC), Tonye Cole; Labour Party (LP) and others.

In Tai Local Government Area, Fubara polled 9,276 votes to defeat other candidates with his closest rival, Abe, coming distant second with 508. There were complaints of snatching of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

The PDP candidate scored a wide margin of votes in Opobo Nkoro, his local government area polling 11,538 to dwarf his closest rival, Cole of APC, who got 1426 votes. Abe scored only 159 votes in the council.

Abe lost his Gokana Local Government Area to Fubara, who scored 17,455 votes against Abe’s 13,840 votes while Cole had 7,410 votes.

Fubara won massively in Ogu Bolo Local Government Area scoring 7,103 votes against Cole’s 1,524 votes and Abe’s 310 votes.

In Eleme, the PDP candidate won the local government area with 8414 votes to win the APC candidate, who got 2,662 votes and Abe’s 2,251 votes.

In Ikwerre, the Local Government Area of a former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, the PDP Candidate, Fubara, defeated Cole of the APC with 13,716 against Cole’s 7,503 and Abe’s 1,447 votes.

In Oyigbo, the Local Government Area of the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chairman, Desmond Akawor, Fubara won with 9886 votes to win Cole, who scored 2,793 votes and Abe, who got 796 votes.

In Etche Local Government Area, Fubara dwarfed other candidates scoring 16,043 votes to win the APC candidate, who got 6,408 votes and Abe, who polled 2,586 votes.

In Khana Local Government Area, Fubara scored 9,475 votes to win the SDP candidate, who got 5,846 votes and the APC with 620 votes.

Out of 19 wards in Khana, the collation officer said five wards had zero results as people refused to vote on suspicion of fake result sheets.

Despite the noise of the Labour Party, the party, which fielded Beatrice Itubor, had no significant showing at the poll.

While the collation had been suspended to resume at 4pm, the following is the breakdown of the results.
