on

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria have returned to the streets of the nation’s capital, to protest the continued detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Police fired tear gas canisters to disperse them while some members of the group were arrested.

Shiite members had protested earlier at the National Assembly Complex on Tuesday, leaving several vehicles damaged while some policemen were injured during the clash at the national assembly.

The latest protest took place at the Federal secretariat area.

Forty suspects were arrested in connection with the Tuesday incident.

According to the FCT police spokesman, Mr. Anjuguri Manzah, those arrested have been arraigned at several courts within the federal capital territory.
