Jonathan’s Kinsmen Call For Unity, Unveils Dickson Unity Cup

Political leaders and stakeholders from Ogbia Local Government Area of the Bayelsa state, has urged indigenes of the area to declare genuine support for a united people, acknowledging that football remains the most popular sports that brings about unity in critical times.

The state Commissioner for information and orientation, Mr. Markson Iworiso, stated this on Thursday while unveiling the mascot for the Governor Dickson unity cup, at the information house, Yenagoa.

It will be recalled that a seven member reconciliation committee to reconcile all aggrieved persons within the fold of the Ogbia people headed by a commissioner in the state was inaugurated few weeks back.

Iworiso, said what is happening today is very special and significant because it’s not just a soccer or football competition but a platform to bring Ogbia people together, adding that the game of soccer never discriminates.

The Commissioner noted that “When it comes to football we are all one and that is why we are using it as a unifying factor to tell the people that we’re all one. In every facet of life if there’s no unity, nothing can stand”

He continued “For us we believe strongly that the soccer should be used to galvanize and bring the youths and elders together, because we will be stronger together”

He admonished the youths to channel their energies to what is productive to them and the people,noting that now is the time to do away with hard drugs and cultism, and take advantage of the opportunities to show their talents.

In his brief, the Chairman Ogbia Restoration Caucus, Chief George Okirinya, called on the youths of the area to shun vices that inimical to development, adding that events like this will help showcase them to the world and they’ll someday earn millions of dollar like their counterparts in Europe.

He called on the organizers to do their best in ensuring the competition meets world standard for others in the state to emulate.

The state Commissioner for power, Partner Jim Ogbolo, stated that the unity of Ogbia people must not be compromised, adding that Ogbia people were not known in the past but wrestling competition brought the people to lime light.

He called on the youths to be more united and focused in supporting the government in order to get more development in the area, adding that Ogbia people have achieved a lot in the unity they exhibited in the past.
