JUST IN: Gov Diri Rattles, Disowns CPS’s Statement On Jonathan ‘APC 2023 Presidential Bid’

The political camp of Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, has been rattled over a statement credited to his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, expressing opposition to the rumoured presidential bid of former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

BIGPENNGR.COM reports that the statement which is generating controversy in the corridor of power in the state, drew the ire of the state governor who directed the state Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ayibaina Duba, to issue a disclaimer.

It was learnt that the statement which triggered a flurry of reactions on social media, reportedly prompted the rebuttal in which the governor warned appointees to be conscious of making unguided statements in their public discourse.

Consequently, the state government, disassociate itself completely with the views expressed by Mr. Daniel Alabrah, maintaining that his views are not, cannot and should not be attributed to the Governor and the Government of Bayelsa State.

The state government’s statement reads in full below;

“The Bayelsa State Government wishes to state that an online post by Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Bayelsa State in which he expressed opposition to the rumoured bid of His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan (GCFR), the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to contest the forthcoming Presidential Election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023 are his personal views.

This clarification becomes necessary because despite the fact that Mr. Daniel Alabrah clearly stated that the views he expressed were personal, many have mistaken his views for that of the Bayelsa State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri and indeed that of his Government because of his position as Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.

For the records, the views expressed by Mr. Daniel Alabrah were his private views and do not represent the position of the Governor or the Bayelsa State Government.

Government hereby disassociate completely with the views expressed by Mr. Daniel Alabrah. His views are not, cannot and should not be attributed to the Governor and the Government of Bayelsa State.

It must be stated here that Governor Douye Diri respects and holds the person and the position of the former president, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan in high regards.

Members of the public should therefore disregard any unfounded attribution of the CPS’s unflattering personal views on the subject matter to the Governor and or the Government of Bayelsa State.

Government further wishes to use this medium to warn appointees of the administration to be conscious of their position and appreciate that their opinion can easily be misconstrued for those of Government. They are advised to exercise restraint and good judgement in their public discourse.

Government will not hesitate to take drastic action against any appointee who throws caution into the wind, fails to respect his office and conduct himself in a manner that may put the Governor in disrepute, undermine the good image of the Bayelsa State Government or cause disaffection among stakeholders in the state”.
