CP Samuel Etaifo Erale Resumes Duty as Delta’s 25th Police Commissioner

The new Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale has resumed duty as the 25th Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command. He takes over from CP Yemi John Oyeniyi.

Erale, an experienced and reliable operational commander, resumed duty on Monday, a statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe said.

Erale CP over the years has distinguished himself as a seasoned Police Officer whose career has been characterized by professionalism, discipline, experience, commitment to duty, operational leadership, personnel management and the maintenance of public safety and security, he said.

Through his varied assignments, CP Erale has gained a wealth of experience in operations, administration, criminal investigation, personnel management, community safety and international policing.

Beyond the demands of policing, CP Erale is happily married and blessed with children. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing badminton and brisk walking.

Born on 2nd March 1968 at Pedro Police Barracks, Shomolu, Mainland, Lagos State. Erale who hails from Owan East LGA, Edo State, holds a BSc (HONS) in Political Science from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1992).

He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in the year 1994 as a member of Course 18 Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

His career has taken him through a wide range of operational, administrative, and command responsibilities, providing him with extensive experience across different areas of policing.

His early years of service took him to Kogi State Command, where he officially started his police career.

His professional journey also extended beyond the shores of Nigeria when he served as part of the Nigeria Police Force keeping contingents on a United Nations Mission in Kosovo (2000), further broadening his exposure to international policing and peace-support operations.

His career trajectory includes significant service at the Office of the Force Secretary, Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he worked in the Promotions Section at different ranks, including as a Chief Superintendent of Police and subsequently as an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

He later served at the Special Investigation Unit, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja. He has served in various commands and formations, which include Ekiti State, Akwa-Ibom State, Bayelsa State Police Command, Rivers State Police Command, Osun State, Kogi State, Zone 7 Headquarters Abuja and Force Headquarters Abuja. Some of his postings include, Personal Assistant to Commissioner of Police, Kogi State command, PA TO AIG Zone 7 Abuja, Police Mobile force provost (2004-2008), Squadron Commander Mopol 33, Ekiti State (2008-2013), CSP Admin, Osun State Police Command, CSP Promotion, office of the Force secretary, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Squadron Commander Mopol 26, Akwa Ibom (2015-2016), FCID, ABUJA, AC operations Bayelsa State Police command, AC Operations Ekiti state Police Command, Squadron Commander Mopol 33, Ekiti State (2019-2022), ACP Promotion, office of the Force Secretary, Force headquarters Abuja, DC Admin River State Police Command (2022-2026), DC Community Safety and Crime prevention, Force headquarters Abuja where he served until his promotion to the enviable rank of a commissioner of Police.

CP Erale spent fourteen years of his Police career in the Police Mobile Force (PMF), during which he was squadron commander for nine years. His extensive experience in tactical operations led to his deployment as the CP Elections in the recently concluded off-cycle elections in Osun State, which was significantly one of the most peaceful and successful elections in recent times. While he was carrying out this very important National Assignment, he was posted as the 25th Commissioner of Police, Delta State, in the month of August 2026.
