NIN Fraud: NIMC Arrests Suspects, Seizes Enrolment Equipment.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment, unauthorised data modification and extortion, following an enforcement operation that resulted in several arrests in Gwagwalada and other locations.

The Commission disclosed this in a statement, noting that its Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit (ICEU) conducted the operation and confiscated equipment allegedly used for illegal NIN enrolment.

According to NIMC, the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to eliminate unauthorised enrolment activities and unethical practices capable of undermining the integrity, security and credibility of Nigeria’s National Identity Management System.

The Commission expressed concern that many of the challenges experienced by NIN holders stemmed from attempts to circumvent approved enrolment procedures.

It reiterated that NIN enrolment must be carried out exclusively at NIMC-approved centres, while requests for personal data modification should be processed through its official self-service modification platform.

NIMC also urged NIN holders to download the NINAuth application from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to access security features, print their NIN slips and enjoy other related services.

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reaffirmed the Commission’s zero-tolerance stance on extortion and other unethical practices.

She assured Nigerians and legal residents that the Commission remained committed to delivering seamless and hitch-free NIN enrolment services.

NIMC consequently advised applicants and existing NIN holders to use only its approved channels for enrolment, data modification and other identity-related services.

It urged members of the public to visit www.nimc.gov.ng or follow its verified social media platforms for authentic information and updates.
