Akpabio Denies Promising Senate Tickets to APC Lawmakers Who Lost Primaries

Published

The Office of the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed reports suggesting that he promised to secure senatorial tickets for lawmakers who lost in the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.

‎In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President described the reports circulating in some sections of the media as false and misleading, stressing that he neither made nor authorized any such promise.

‎According to the statement, Senator Akpabio only informed his colleagues that the APC leadership was working to address concerns arising from the primaries and that the party’s final list of candidates would be released in accordance with established rules and procedures.

‎The Senate President reiterated his commitment to party discipline, emphasizing that he would not interfere in the internal processes of the APC.

‎The statement also clarified reports regarding a possible Senate investigation into the military over recent security incidents across the country. While acknowledging that legislative oversight remains a constitutional responsibility of the National Assembly, Akpabio maintained that the current security situation does not warrant a public inquiry.

‎He argued that open hearings could negatively affect the morale of troops engaged in ongoing operations against terrorism and banditry, advocating instead for closed-door engagements with security agencies to address security concerns.

‎The Senate President’s office further urged media organizations to verify information and seek clarification before publication in order to prevent the spread of misinformation.
