Isoko North Boss Congratulates HRM Agbi on his Emergence as Ovie of Oyede Kingdom

The Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. (Elder) Prince Godwin Ogorugba, on Friday joined Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated His Royal Majesty, Sir (Engr.) Goodnews Goodman Agbi, Athuaro I, on his historic installation as the Ovie of Oyede Kingdom.

The colourful ceremony, held in Oyede, Isoko North council, marked a defining moment in the history of the ancient kingdom as the newly installed monarch officially received the Staff of Office, signifying the formal recognition of his authority by the Delta State Government. Governor Oborevwori was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday John Onyeme, FCA, who presented the Staff of Office on behalf of the governor.

Hon. Ogorugba attended the ceremony alongside his Isoko South counterpart, Hon. Friday Ovoke Warri, in a show of solidarity with the people of Oyede Kingdom as they celebrated the beginning of a new era in their traditional leadership.

Speaking shortly after the ceremony, the Isoko North Council Chairman commended Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering commitment to preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage and strengthening traditional institutions through the recognition of deserving royal fathers.

Ogorugba described the formal presentation of the Staff of Office as a historic milestone that would further consolidate peace, unity and development, not only in Oyede Kingdom but across Isoko Nation and Delta State as a whole.

According to him, the governor’s continued support for traditional institutions reflects a deep appreciation of the critical role royal fathers play in promoting peaceful coexistence, safeguarding cultural values and serving as custodians of the people’s customs and traditions.

While congratulating the newly installed monarch, Hon. Ogorugba expressed confidence in the capacity of His Royal Majesty, Sir (Engr.) Goodnews Goodman Agbi, Athuaro I, to provide purposeful and inclusive leadership that would usher Oyede Kingdom into a new phase of progress and prosperity.

The council chairman urged the monarch to govern with humility, fairness and the fear of God, emphasizing that the strength of every traditional institution lies in the confidence and trust of its people.

He further advised the royal father to remain accessible to his subjects, embrace regular consultation with community stakeholders and continue to promote peace, unity and reconciliation among the people, noting that these qualities would enhance the kingdom’s stability and attract meaningful development.

Hon. Ogorugba also expressed optimism that the reign of the new Ovie would stimulate greater socio-economic growth, strengthen communal harmony and position Oyede Kingdom for increased government attention and private sector investment.

“On behalf of the good people of Isoko North Local Government Area, I heartily congratulate Your Royal Majesty, Sir (Engr.) Goodnews Goodman Agbi, PhD, FNSE, FNICE, FNInstE, Athuaro I, on your official installation as the Ovie of Oyede Kingdom. Your emergence marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the kingdom. It is my earnest prayer that Almighty God grants you the wisdom, strength, good health and divine guidance to lead your people with justice, compassion and the fear of God.

The ceremony attracted an impressive gathering of traditional rulers, government officials, political office holders, religious leaders, community stakeholders and sons and daughters of Oyede Kingdom, all of whom witnessed the official presentation of the Staff of Office in what was widely described as a landmark event that heralds a new era of traditional leadership and development for the kingdom.
