SMEDAN Empowers 145 Trainees With Starter Packs In Rivers

Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN), on Friday, empowered 145 trainees with starter packs in Rivers.

SMEDAN’S Director-General, Dr Dikko Radda, announced this at the closing ceremony of the National Business Skills Development Initiative in Port Harcout.

The  participants were trained on aluminum fabrication, fashion designing and catering.

Radda said that the initiative was aimed at training and impacting 5,365 entrepreneurs in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said it was also targetted at providing job opportunities for young Nigerians who might want to start up their own businesses.

“We provided them with vocational and entrepreneurship training to boost their capacities.

“We also provided them with equipment on the various training they have received to enable them start their businesses.

“The target is on young men and women in the society to have more job opportunities instead of waiting for white collar jobs.

“This will enable us have conducive atmosphere in terms of security and peace, while it will also help our economy to grow,’’ he said.

The director-general urged the beneficiaries not to sell their equipment, but use them to improve their business management practices and train others in order to grow the economy.

In her remarks, one of the beneficiaries, Miss Victoria Eze, thanked the Federal Government for empowering them saying that she was given cutting and drilling machine.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Ebite Ibieye, thanked SMEDAN for the gesture, promising to make good use of the equipment given to her.
