The Nigerian Bar Association Udu branch, has petitioned the Director-General of the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, over alleged exclusion of Udu Council Area from projects execution by the agency.

The NBA, in a statement by its local branch chairman, Mr. P Mekako and Secretary, Mr. Peter Daubry on Sunday, lamented that the agency is neglecting Udu area in the scheme of things despite the fact that Udu is part of Warri in its projects execution since its inception.

“We have followed with keen interest the developmental projects that are being carried out by your agency– the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency in the jurisdiction of the agency which includes building of drainages, road construction and beautification of parks, a protest letter addressed to Macaulay read.

While commending Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the appointment of the Director General of the agency, the NBA branch noted specifically the construction of the underground drainage constructed in Uti Street, Effurun and the underground drainage being constructed along the PTI road, Effurun, Delta State.

It also noted the construction of roads and drainages within the Warri area being undertaken by your Development Committee. We are very pleased and impressed with the quality of work being carried out by your Development Committee”.

According to the group, Udu council is part and parcel of the Warri/Effurun cosmopolitical area as such should benefit from the projects being carried out by the agency.

NBA expressed displeasure that Udu Local Government Area has been totally left out as the Local Government has not benefitted in any way from the developmental projects been executed by the agency.

“We are unable to identify any project in the entire Udu Local Government Area either completed or on- going that can be traced to your Committee”, the letter read.

“This situation is highly unfortunate, as your committee by it name and functions is meant to carry out developmental projects within Udu Local Government Area which undoubtedly is within the Warri and Effurun Environs.

“Consequent upon the above, we humbly make this clarion call to you to as a matter urgency to commence developmental projects in Udu Local Government Area as there are so many areas within Udu Local Government Area that are in need of your intervention in the area of drainages and roads.

“We shall continue to monitor with keen interest the developmental projects being carried out by your Committee and the spread of the projects within your area of coverage. We trust that this call will be answered and quickly too”, it concluded.
