PTI Announces Plans To Set Up N120bn New Technology Hub, To Digitalize Institution

The management of Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State has announced plans to established a N120billion new technology hub, dubbed as Digital Petroleum Training Institute, DiPTI.
Already, the project which will be implemented in bits has been launched by the institution’s alumni which had on 30 September, 2017 raised some funds for its takeoff.
Announcing this on Tuesday at a news conference to herald the institution’s convocation ceremony billed for Saturday, the Principal and Chief Executive of PTI, Prof. Sunny Iyuke, said that the PTI smart education project would be a place for new beginnings, digital innovations capable of creating jobs for the teeming youths of the state.
Prof Iyuke disclosed that as part of efforts to realize the project, the institution has kick-start the process of entering into partnership with Huawei, which specialize in soft and hardware packages to provide IPads to all students at a subsidized rate for the pilot scheme.
When completed, the multi billion naira project would enable students to have access to all courses digitalized for the e-platform application and presentation across the globe.
Students can connect online in real time and receive lectures and even write their examinations from any part of the world, Iyuke said, adding that the DiPTI estimated to cost N120billion naira would launch the institution into globe internet space.
The institution’s Principal and Chief Executive also disclosed that PTI which is training manpower for the oil and gas sector, had entered into MoU with Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF, Society of Petroleum Engineers, SPE, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, as well as Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria, PETAN, for the development of local capacity in the industry.

He further hinted that the Federal Government has given a nod for the award in the 2017 capital appropriation, the design and fabrication of Modular Refinery project which would be deployed for research and training purpose for the institution.
Speaking on academic progresses recorded, Prof Iyuke announced that 48 students graduated with distinction and 347 students graduated with Upper credit in the 2015/2016 academic session adding that this year, the institution has added 1,102 graduates of the ND and HND into the field of Engineering and Sciences to the oil and gas sector while 24 graduates will be awarded the PTI General Welding Certificates.
Meanwhile, the institution will on Saturday conferred Honorary Fellowship, an honour reserved for individuals of outstanding achievement, on former federal Information Commissioner a and elder statesman, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark.
Also to be honoured by the institution are, Chief (Sen) Nimi Barigha-Amange, an Alumnus of PTI and former Pro-Chancellor, FUPRE as well as former Secretary General, NUPENG, Chief Frank Kokori.
Prof. Iyuke said that the fellowship was in recognition of the exemplary leadership the trio had provided in politics, economy, education as well as their contribution to the oil and gas sector.
