Delta Police Arrest 2 Vigilante Members, Launch Manhunt For 3 Others

For allegedly being involved in criminal activities, the Delta State Police Command has arrested members of a vigilante group in Abraka and launched manhunt for three others who are currently on the run.

The five vigilante members were said to have attacked one Alhaji Mohammed Basa aged 55 years and his son, Mohammed Dio aged 24 years from Nasarawa State while traveling from Kwale to Benin in a Motorcycle.

Police source said that during the attack, the five vigilante member’s stabbed Alhaji Bas with knives severally with a view to killing him while his son Dio escaped and ran to Abraka Police station to laid complain.

Giving graphic details of the attack in a statement titled ‘Armed Robbery Attack and Suspected Murder’, Delta Police spokesperson, Andrew Aniamaka said, “At about 11.30am on Saturday 23 September 2017, One Mohammed Dio aged 24 years, from Nasarawa State but resides in Kwale town, reported at Abraka Police Station that at about 4pm while traveling with his father to Benin, Alhaji Mohammed Basa, aged 55 yrs of same address with a motorbike, they got to Abraka Farm Reserve Area

“At that area, 5 Men in Vigilante uniform, which can be identified if seen, ambushed them and tied them up and dragged them to an uncompleted building.

“They carted away their motorbike and the sum of #10,000 and 3 Phones and stabbed his father severally but he escaped the scene which has been visited by Police patrol teams.

“But Mohammed Basa has not been seen yet and a massive manhunt for the perpetrators and the victim is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the police said, “One Goodluck Michael aged 38 yrs of No 15 Ogbeide Street and one Believe Umufo aged 40 yrs of NUT road, Abraka, both members of Abraka Vigilante have been arrested in connection with the case while effort is on to arrest the remaining three suspects”
