The Delta State Government has midwived a peace agreement between Aladja and Isaba communities, 43 months after the two communities went into communal disagreement.

Special Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor JP, who disclosed this on Sunday, said that the communities have signed a pact, ending the crisis.

The peace pact was jointly sealed by the Ovie of Udu kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Delekpe, JP and the regent of Isaba kingdom, High Chief John Ekpenzu and witnessed by the peace committee-led by Chief Uzor and members of both communities.

According to Uzor, before the peace agreement, he took turns to visit both communities in Udu and Warri South Local Government Areas, respectively.

Chief Uzor stressed that Governor Okowa had invested so much to build a stronger Delta, despite the complexities in the state.

He revealed that the state government, through his office, had successfully addressed over 85 percent of more than 300 conflict cases in recent times.

Chief Uzor conveyed the promise of the Governor to tar the road linking both communities among other dividends of good governance.

He therefore enjoined the youths to always give peace a chance as conflict is an anathema to development.

“Nothing is difficult before God and I believe that every matter in the state must be settled. What has happened here today is that the good people of Aladja and Isaba communities have sealed the agreement that there will coexist peacefully the way they have done over the years” Uzor said.

Accordingly, the Chairman of Udu community, Hon Jite Brown and his colleague from Warri South, Hon Taiye Tuoyo expressed gratitude to Chief Uzor and the state government for wading into the conflict situation, which had bedeviled both communities since 2016.

Similarly, the President General of Aladja community, Otto Ogbiruveta expressed readiness to abide by the peace pact, just as his counterpart from Isaba community; Henry Ofoleyon said that the long lingered crisis had caused both communities more than they bargained.
