Pastor Says Sex Toys Not Sinful for Married Couples

Apostle Joshua Aghasedo of Powerline Church has said the use of sex toys by married couples does not constitute sin, describing the devices as tools that can help spouses improve their intimate life.

Aghasedo made the remarks while speaking to his congregation in a video shared on the church’s YouTube channel on Tuesday.

The clergyman compared sex toys to everyday equipment such as cars and mobile phones, arguing that their use should be considered within the context of marriage.

“Is using a sex toy a sin? Is driving a car a sin? A car to drive you from here to Dallas, is it a sin? Using the phone, is it a sin? So, the phone is an equipment, right, and car is an equipment,” he said.

Aghasedo disclosed that he had never personally used a sex toy but noted that modern technology had made such devices available to married couples seeking to improve their intimate experiences.

“I have never used a sex toy. Let me just say. But in this modern day of technology, it’s an equipment. It can help you do the job to 90%, and you finish the remaining 10%. I’m just being real. It can help you,” he said.

He, however, emphasised that his comments were strictly about married couples.

According to him, he had previously recommended a sex toy to a married couple after considering their circumstances, with the aim of helping them avoid problems that could arise from sexual dissatisfaction.

“I have suggested sex toy to a couple before when I look at all the surrounding circumstances, so that somebody won’t go out and other things would follow,” he said.

The pastor reiterated that sex toys should only be used within marriage, distinguishing such use from using the devices individually.

He said using a sex toy alone amounted to masturbation, which he described as fornication within his religious interpretation.

“Now, if you engage it on your own, it’s called masturbation and another word for masturbation is fornication,” Aghasedo said.

The comments have added to an ongoing religious and cultural debate in Nigeria over the use of sex toys. While some faith leaders oppose their use on moral or religious grounds, others focus on whether they are used within the boundaries of marriage.

Sexual wellness experts also generally recognise that some married couples use such devices as part of their intimate lives, particularly to enhance sexual experiences or address certain difficulties.
