The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District has appealed to other ethnic nationalities at the Senate to support the bid of Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege for Deputy Senate President.

This is coming as the Urhobo ethnic nationality of Delta Central Senatorial District, on Sunday, also declared their total support for Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to emerge as Deputy Senate President of the incoming 9th National Assembly.

The decision was contained in a communique issued after a press conference/solidarity support meeting held at the PTI Conference Centre, Effurun, Delta State.

Vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Delta State, Chief Adelabu Bodjor, who read the communique, called on all Urhobos and senators-elect from other ethnic groups and geo-political zones to support Omo-Agege’s bid.

Bodjor said the Urhobo nation where Omo-Agege hailed from before now had supported the North, East and West in their previous bid for various positions in the Senate.

According to him, it would be better if other ethnic group at the Red chamber reciprocate the good gesture and support Omo-Agege’s quest.

He chided a group, the Urhobo Political Group, which he described as non-Urhobos, for attempting to betray the collective interest and truncate the destiny of the entire Urhobos at the coming Senate.

“We have just discovered that a handful of gangsters, who are unarguably sponsored by the enemies of Urhobo, has gone on air to declare support for an Igbo senator contesting for the same post.

Their move to support an Igbo Senator for the position that’s already in the kitty of the Urhobo nation is wicked, mischievous and unpatriotic,” Chief Bodjor noted.

“It is therefore mischievous and Preposterous for quite a handful of persons who claim to be Urhobos and for any reason known to them only work against the interest of entire Urhobo nation and history.

The APC vice chairman, who was surrounded by eminent personalities which cut across ethnic and religious divides, affirmed that since the APC has zoned the Deputy Senate President slot to the South-South geo-political zone, no other Senator, but Omo-Agege, was more qualified.

“We must, for all intent and purposes, emphasise that the Senate seat and, by extension, the accompanying office of the Deputy Senate President, are not for Senator Omo-Agege as a person.

Also speaking, Halims Agoda, former member representing Ethiope East Federal Constituency said the Urhobo should rally round and support Omo-Agege in his bid.

“Omo-Agege has played his part, the Arewa has endorsed him, why are we now working against him,” he asked.
