‎NISO Disowns ‘Nigeria National Grid’ X Account, Warns Public Against Misinformation

‎The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has distanced itself from an unauthorized social media account on X (formerly Twitter) operating under the name “Nigeria National Grid,” warning the public against relying on information disseminated through the platform.

‎In a statement issued by its management on June 5, 2026, NISO said it was compelled to reiterate its position following the continued operation of the account and the publication of what it described as misleading and unauthorized information concerning Nigeria’s power grid.

‎The organization recalled that it had previously disassociated itself from the account in a press release dated January 17, 2026, stressing that the account is neither owned nor managed by NISO and has no affiliation whatsoever with the agency.

‎According to NISO, the individuals or entities behind the account are unknown to the organization and are not authorized to represent its views, communicate on its behalf, or act under its name.
‎
‎The agency urged members of the public, media organizations, and stakeholders in the power sector to disregard any statements, claims, opinions, or information published through the account, noting that such content does not reflect its official position, operations, or activities.

‎As the body responsible for managing Nigeria’s national electricity grid, NISO emphasized that all its official communications are released exclusively through its verified platforms, including Facebook and LinkedIn under “Nigerian Independent System Operator,” Instagram handle @officialniso_ng, X handle @OFFICIALNISO_NG, and its official website, www.niso.org.ng.

‎The organization reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accuracy, and responsible communication, while calling on the public to remain vigilant and report any unauthorized use of its identity or mandate.

‎NISO also expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation of the media and the public in helping to combat misinformation within the power sector.
