Community Policing: Isoko South Chair Begins Construction of Police Station in Border Town, Enwhe

In his administration’s determination in curbing insecurity, the chairman of the Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, Friday Ovoke Warri, has commences the building of a new police station to boost border security in the locality.

The new police station which is located at Enwhe community is aimed at reducing and tackling external security threats in Isoko South.

The police station, when completed, Warri, said, will contribute to the federal and state governments idea of community policing.

Explaining further, Akpdhoma Michael, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Isoko South, noted that “In accordance with the Nigerian Constitution, policing is a federal matter, overseen by the Nigeria Police Force, while state authorities and local governments frequently provide supplementary support by establishing infrastructure, including police stations, vehicles, and officer accommodations, to improve security awareness.

“Communities situated along border areas, such as Enwhe, which connects Isoko south to the east-west road, and Ughelli North local government is particularly vulnerable to issues including smuggling, unauthorized crossings, inter-communal conflicts, and illicit activities.

“Consequently, the establishment of a police station will provide a consistent security presence aimed at deterring criminal activities and facilitating rapid response to incidents. This facility will enhance the protection of lives and property in Enwhe and surrounding communities distant from Oleh.

“The new station will decrease response times and enhance safety measures for our residents. As a border town, Enwhe occasionally encounters land or resource disputes between neighboring communities or within the Isoko South community itself. A sustained police presence would be instrumental in maintaining order and preventing escalation.

“Upon completion, this project will not only be a notable achievement for the Warri Ovoke-led administration’s infrastructure development initiatives, but it will also significantly alleviate the prevailing crises in neighbouring communities while reducing the work load on the Oleh Police Division.”
