Delta Police Nabs Suspect Moving Ammunition to Edo State; Arrests Notorious Drug Peddler

Operatives of the ‘C’ Division Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel of the Delta State Police Command, have intercepted a major movement of ammunition being ferry from across the Niger Bridge enroute Edo State.

The vehicle conveying the ammunition, a Toyota Hiace Hummer Bus with registration number NGK 16 XB, driven by one Ozoemenam Sylvanus was flagged down during a routine surveillance and stop-and-search at the Head Bridge, Asaba.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe who confirmed this yesterday, said that the operatives, on October 16, were conducting routine surveillance and stop-and-search when they intercepted the vehicle.

He said that the driver, appearing uneasy during questioning, drew the suspicion of the officers who proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle.

According to him, their instinct paid off as four hundred (400) live cartridges were discovered carefully concealed within the bus.

He disclosed that the suspect initially lied that the vehicle was padlocks but was left speechless when the parcel was open and the true content was seen.

“He was immediately arrested, and both he and the exhibit recovered. Investigation to unravel the source, and criminal network behind the illegal arms movement is ongoing”, he added.

In a related development, 37-year-old Onos Afokoghene suspected to be a notorious drug baron has been arrested in possession of large quantities of hard drugs by operatives of the Orerokpe Division of the state police command.

The suspect, according to the police is known for distributing large quantities of hard drugs within Warri and adjoining communities, was busted on 10th October 2025, at about 2045hrs, following credible intelligence on his activities.

Edafe, said that acting promptly on a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer, Orerokpe Division, CSP Paul Oboware, mobilised and led his patrol teams to the identified flashpoint in Jeddo Community, where the suspect and other suspected hoodlums were reportedly engaged in selling and consuming illicit substances.

“Sensing the approach of the police, the suspects attempted to flee, but the team swiftly closed in and arrested the suspect, Onos Afokoghene, after a brief pursuit.

“A thorough search of the scene led to a startling discovery of illicit substances and paraphernalia used in large-scale drug sales.

“Exhibits recovered include the following: 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian Hemp, 24ltrs of soaked weed suspected to be Indian Hemp in dry gin (locally known as “monkey tail”), Several sachets of Tramadol of various milligrams, and two (2) POS machines suspected of being used for drug sales.

“The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to uncover his network of distributors and buyers”, he added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has reiterated that the safety and security of residents remain a top priority of his leadership of the police command.

He therefore called on residents to continue partnering with the Police by providing timely and credible information that will assist in detecting, preventing, and combating crime in all its forms.

The CP said that the Command has intensified operations across communities, urging residents to stay vigilant, remain law-abiding, and promptly report suspicious movements or activities through the Command’s dedicated distress line: 08036684974.

The Police Commissioner said that the Command under his leadership will continues to sustain its proactive operations against criminal elements across the State through intelligence-led policing.
