Oborevwori Boosts Delta Healthcare With 3 MRI Machines, 700 Health Workers

Delta State Government says it has procured three MRI machines, three CT scanners and 25 4D ultrasound machines and employed over 700 health workers to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Sir Festus Ahon, disclosed this during an interview on Independent Radio FM 92.3, Benin, where he outlined the administration’s achievements in the health sector.

Ahon said Governor Oborevwori invested in modern diagnostic equipment to reduce the over N100 billion spent annually by Deltans seeking treatment outside the state and abroad.

“For the first time in the history of Delta State, we now have three MRI machines of 1.5 Tesla helium-free technology, one in each senatorial district. We have one in Asaba Specialist Hospital, one in Central Hospital, Warri, and another in our teaching hospital in Oghara, and they are all functioning,” Ahon said.

He said the government also provided three CT scan machines, eight dialysis machines — three in Asaba, three in Warri and two in Oghara — and 25 units of 4D ultrasound scanners distributed to general hospitals in the 25 local government areas.

“With these facilities, our people no longer need to travel abroad for specialised diagnosis,” he stated.

On affordable healthcare, Ahon said the administration sustained free treatment for children aged zero to five years and expanded the state’s contributory health insurance scheme to over three million enrollees, including 10,000 widows who also receive N15,000 monthly stipends.

He said Governor Oborevwori approved the employment of over 700 health workers and gave a standing directive for immediate replacement of doctors and nurses who leave the service, especially those relocating abroad.“Because of his commitment to the health sector, the governor recently employed over 700 health workers.

He gave a standing order that if any doctor or nurse ‘japa’, he or she should be replaced immediately,” Ahon said.To retain manpower, the government introduced special tax-free monthly allowances of N200,000 for doctors and N100,000 for health officers.

Ahon added that the state established a College of Health Technology at Ovrode in Isoko North and a College of Medicine at Southern Delta University, Ozoro, to train more health professionals.

He said the interventions are in line with Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
