Why I Dropped My SSG, 5 Commissioners, Scrapped Office Of Chief Of Staff – Kano Gov, Yusuf

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has explained why he carried out a far-reaching reshuffling of the state executive council, insisting that the changes were intended to effect a pragmatic political realignment of his administration.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf disclosed that the first major reshuffle of his cabinet would take immediate effect.

According to the statement, those affected by the major shake-up are the Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, whose office was scrapped, and the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, who the statement claimed was dropped on health grounds.

According to Bature, the Governor has also dropped some cabinet members and reassigned others to enhance administrative performance.

Those who retained their positions, according to the statement, are Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa Dederi; Commissioner for Agriculture, Danjuma Mahmoud; Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran; Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar; Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Musa Suleiman Shannon; and Commissioner for Works and Housing, Marwan Ahmad.

Also retained are Commissioner for Solid and Mineral Resources, Sefiyanu Hamza; Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Ahmad Tijani Auwal; Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso; Commissioner for Investment and Commerce, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya; and Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Mohammad Inuwa Idris.

According to the statement, those reassigned are the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulssalam, who is moved from the Ministry of Local Government to Higher Education; Mohammad Tajo Usman, moved from Science and Technology to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; and Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, from Higher Education to Science, Technology and Innovation.

Others on the reassignment list include Amina Abdullahi, from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry for Women, Children and the Disabled; Nasiru Sule Garo, from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to the Ministry of Special Duties; Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Ibrahim Namadi, now moved to the Ministry of Transport; and Umar Haruna Doguwa of the Ministry of Education, now moved to the Ministry of Water Resources.

Also on the reassigned list are Ali Haruna Makoda, moved from Water Resources to the Ministry of Education; Aisha Lawal Saji, from the Ministry of Women, Children and the Disabled to Tourism and Culture; and Muhammad Diggol, from Transport to the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation.

In all, Governor Yusuf dropped five members of his cabinet: Ibrahim Jibril Fagge, of the Finance Ministry; Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, Culture and Tourism; Baba Halilu Dantiye, Information and Internal Affairs; Shehu Aliyu Yammedi, Special Duties; and Abbas Sani Abbas, Rural and Community Development.

The Governor has also directed the former Chief of Staff and the five commissioners who were dropped to report to the office of the Governor for possible reassignment.
