Delta North: Okowa Hails Asagba of Asaba’s Two Years Of Service-Driven Leadership

Former Governor of Delta State and APC Senatorial candidate for Delta North, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has described the two-year reign of the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, as a model of service-driven traditional leadership that has transformed both the palace and the kingdom.
Okowa described the monarch’s two-year reign as one marked by visible transformation of the palace and tangible interventions in the lives of Asaba people.
He spoke during the second coronation anniversary at the Asagba Palace, saying the Asagba has shown that traditional institutions can be strategic partners in development.
Okowa noted that the Asagba has deployed the traditional stool to drive interventions in healthcare, education, youth development and community peacebuilding — areas that directly touch the wellbeing of the people.
In a goodwill message posted after the event, Okowa commended the monarch for bringing remarkable transformation to the palace in just two years and for redefining traditional leadership.
“In just two years, His Royal Majesty has brought remarkable transformation to the palace while redefining traditional leadership through service, peacebuilding and tangible interventions that touch lives,” Okowa said.
He noted that the Asagba has demonstrated that traditional institutions can play a vital role in improving the wellbeing of the people through interventions in healthcare, education, youth development and community peace.
“From healthcare and education to youth development and community peace, the Asagba has demonstrated that traditional institutions can play a vital role in improving the wellbeing of our people,” Okowa said.
He commended the monarch’s humility, vision and commitment, praying for wisdom and strength to lead the Asaba Kingdom to greater heights.
“I commend His Royal Majesty for his humility, vision and commitment to the people of Asaba. May God continue to grant him wisdom, strength and grace to lead the Asaba Kingdom to greater heights,” Okowa added.
The second anniversary, held on Sunday at the Asagba Palace, drew chiefs, indigenes and political leaders across Delta North.
Okowa, who is contesting the Delta North Senatorial seat on the platform of the APC in the 2027 general election, has over the years shown consistent concern for the welfare of traditional rulers in Delta State.
As governor between 2015 and 2023, Okowa elevated the role of traditional institutions in governance, peacebuilding and community development, a stance he has continued to maintain in his current political engagements.
The Asagba, Prof. Azinge, SAN, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, was crowned the 14th Asagba of Asaba in October 2024, succeeding His Royal Majesty, Obi Prof. Chike Edozien, who joined his ancestors in February 2024.
