Delta Police Recovers N200k From Robbers, Kills Two, Recovers Two AK-47 Rifles

The Delta State Police Command has said that it engaged daredevil armed robbers in a gunfire and gun down two who later died after they were rushed to an hospital.
The Command said that officers and men from the Divisional patrol team from Otu-Jeremi police station engaged the suspects while on a stop and search duty along Egbo/Otokutu road.
The Acting State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said that the incident happened on 28/8/2021 at about 1730hrs.
According to him, the police team swung into action after receiving information that four (4) suspected armed robbers who had earlier snatched two (2) vehicles, a gold coloured Toyota Camry with Reg. no.RSH 291 AW and a custom coloured lexus 350 jeep with Reg. No. WWR 737 KL abandoned the vehicles at Otokutu community due to suspected mechanical faults and were escaping in a tricycle.
“The team swung into action and chased the hoodlums but the gang on sighting the police team opened fire on them and in the ensuing gun battle the hoodlums were forced to abandon the tricycle”, he said.
According to him, “Two of the hoodlums escaped and ran into the bush while two others were fatally wounded and found in the tricycle with gun shot injuries. One Ak47 rifle with breech no. not visible, an empty magazine, a cash sum of two hundred thousand naira(#200,000.00), gold jewelries were recovered.
He added; “The suspects who sustained gunshot injuries were rushed to the hospital where they gave up the ghost while receiving treatment”.
DSP Bright said that the DPO Otu-jeremi Division would later led a combined team of police/vigilante to further comb the bush for the possible arrest of the other fleeing members of the gang but in the process recovered another AK 47 rifle with breach number NK344397 with two magazines and 3 live ammunition.
Manhunt for the other members of the gang is ongoing, he added.
In a related development, on 28/8/2021, the command Crack squad raided criminal hideout in Ozoro community where two suspects namely Cyril Enishoke ‘m’ age 20yrs and Oghogho Joseph ‘f’ age 32yrs were arrested and large quantity of substance suspected to be Indian hemp was recovered from them. Investigation is ongoing.
DSP Bright said that the command recorded the success in the fight against crime and criminality in the state following the proactive strategies put in place by the Commissioner of Police Delta state, CP Ari Muhammed Ali.
He said that the CP assured Deltans that the command would do all it takes to improve security and sustain the tempo against crime with a view to seeing that criminally minded people do not find it easy in the state, and that the state will be too hot for them.
