Suspected Hoodlums Attack APC Campaign Convoy In Delta

Suspected hoodlums on Saturday attacked the campaign convoy of All Progressives Congress, APC in Okpolo-Enwhe, Delta state.
BIGPEN ONLINE gathered that the incident happened few days after a similar attack was launched on the campaign convoy of PDP in the same route.
The APC convoy had Mr. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, APC House of Representatives Candidate for Isoko South and North Federal constituency, the DG Onowakpo Campaign council, Silas Bouwe, top chieftains of the party including, Ambrose Okuhor, DG Uduaghan Campaign Organisation, Mr Charles Mallam-Obi, all the candidates of the party including Hon Benjamin Okiemute Essien, Isoko South I constituency and his counterpart in Isoko South II constituency, Barr. Israel Afoke Umuerri, canvassers for various offices in the forthcoming election as well as their supporters.
According to sources, though no life was lost, the hoodlums who reportedly mounted heavy blockage on the road against APC candidates and their supporters who were in a convoy en route Igbide to Enwhe left several persons injured.
The convoy was attacked with dangerous weapons including guns, clubs and machetes.
Several vehicles had their windscreens smashed while some individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries in the process as the irate youths swooped on the motorcade amidst attempt by the drivers to make U-turn.
It was learnt that one vehicle was burnt down after the occupants had flee from it amidst sporadic shooting from the attackers.
“Some of the vehicles in the convoy make a detour on hearing of the attack to make their way to Umeh/Erowha but those who couldn’t, were attacked and their vehicles smashed.
“We learnt one vehicle was burnt by the PDP thugs who swooped on us. It was a plot to weaken our security and strength but we will not be deterred, one of the party faithful said.
Sources told BIGPEN ONLINE that the hoodlums believed to be supporters of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP had taken advantage of the rally in that area to unleash mayhem on the APC campaign convoy as a reprisal for an earlier attack on PDP campaign convoy.
