Police Recover Stolen Vehicle, Vandalized Items, Arrest Two Robbery Suspects in Delta

Opearatives of the Sapele Division of the Delta state Police Command, have recovered a Toyota Sienna bus conveying suspected vandalised items, including iron cuts and a gas cylinder.

The recovery followed a reported case of theft on March 30, at the Sapele Division by a concerned citizen who alleged that he sighted a Toyota Sienna bus with some suspected vandalised items.

Delta police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe who confirmed this, on Thursday, in a statement, said that acting on the information, a patrol team under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer was deployed to the scene.

He said that on sighting the police, the hoodlums abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush.

The vehicle was recovered and towed to the station. Preliminary investigation has commenced, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, Edafe said.

In a related development, two have been arrested for alleged armed robbery by operatives of Agbor Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer.

The police, while on anti-crime patrol conducting stop-and-search duty at College Junction, intercepted two suspects, Julius Godday, aged 31 years, and Mzemeke Peter, aged 28 years, who were riding on a motorcycle.

Edafe, said that on sighting the police, the suspects attempted to flee but were swiftly pursued and arrested.

He said that a search conducted on them led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of the Eiye confraternity and are linked to a series of motorcycle snatching incidents within the area.

“The suspects have confessed to the crime, and are currently in custody. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba, for further discreet investigation and possible prosecution” he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, has commended the operatives and urged residents to support the police with credible information, assuring that the Command will sustain its efforts in combating crime across the State.

The CP further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
