Immediate past governor of Delta State and APC Delta South Senatorial candidate, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has recounted how his administration sent alot of Deltans abroad through interventionist agencies’s schoolarship schemes.

Uduaghan who specifically eulogised one of the first beneficiary of DESOPADEC post graduate oversea scholarship program which he initiated, said that Education was one of the primary focus of his administration as Governor of Delta State.

BigPen Online reports that the APC Delta South senatorial candidate spoke on Sunday in a facebook post after the church Thanksgiving service of Dr. Victory Odize who benefited from the DESOPADEC and NDDC masters and doctorate degree scholarship scheme programmes respectively in the US.

Uduaghan’s post is reproduced in full below:

I met Dr. Victory Odize for the first time today.

He was one of the first beneficiary of DESOPADEC Post Graduate Oversea Scholarship Program. He applied for a Masters degree program. Education was one of the primary focus of my administration as Governor of Delta State. Besides the N5m First Class Scholarship Scheme, through Agencies like DESOPADEC, we specially catered to the educational needs of the oil producing areas and Dr. Victory was one of the plenty who benefited.

Today being the first Sunday of the year, I decided to attend the Thanksgiving Service of Dr. Victory and his family in Oleh where he recounted how he miraculously made the shortlist for the program.

I recall when the list was submitted to me, a certain name was crossed. Upon enquiry, I was told he was not supposed to be on the list. It was today I learnt from Dr. Victory himself that he “gatecrashed” the screening venue.

Through NDDC, we sent a lot of Deltans abroad. This time, he applied for a PhD program but those in-charge said he didn’t meet all the requirements. Again, his name was asterisked on the shortlist. What a deja vu!

My attention was drawn to a previous scholarship list wherein a certain name was crossed. It was the same Dr. Victory. In both incidences, I still don’t know why I intervened in his case. He didn’t pass through any godfather, he didn’t have to know the governor or any of his commissioners. I believe his parents were praying for him. Parents should not fail in praying for their children. As parents, Government or individuals, we should always prioritize the education of our children, wards and citizens.

Today Victory holds a doctorate degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from Virginia Tech, USA.

I am proud of you.
Deltans are proud of you.

I wish you more victories in future endeavours!
