Niger Delta Militants

* Warn those ‘sponsoring’ calls for his removal

Some former militant leaders of the Niger Delta Supreme Egbesu Fighters and the Niger Delta Region Scorpion Warriors have threatened to return to the trenches if Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Implementation Programme, Brig. Gen.Paul Boroh is sack following calls for his removal.

The groups while dismissing as “sponsored” the recent calls by some groups in the region for the removal of Brig. Gen.Paul Boroh said that if those ‘sponsoring’ the attacks continue they would be left with no other option than to return to the trenches.

The group of former militant leaders described those behind the campaign for the removal of Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh as disgruntled elements, sponsored militants; none existent youth groups and selfish individuals.

The two former militant group, the Niger Delta Supreme Egbesu Fighters and the Niger Delta Region Scorpion Warriors, in a statement issued via email in Yenagoa, warned those calling for the removal Boroh to retrace their steps or be prepared to face the wrath of militants as their identities are known to them.

The Leaders of the two former militant groups, General Obus Opukeme and General Odudu Freeman, in the joint statement, noted that General Boroh had made tireless efforts to the sustained peace process that the country is currently enjoyed in the region hence should be appreciated by all genuine stakehokders from the region,

The duo emphasised that General Boroh had steadily used his good office to engage various genuine agitating militant groups, traditional rulers and well meaning stakeholders in the region to foster peace, stability, progress and to attract development in this President Mohammadu Buhari led APC Govt than previous miserable PDP 16yrs Govt beyond expectation moreso.

“General Paul Boroh had risked his life to visit the entire length and breadth of the creek of the Niger Delta to calm frayed nerves in the wake of the destruction of oil pipelines and oil facilities in 2016.

“General Boroh had brought several empowerment programmes through the Amnesty programme by engaging various militant groups in agriculture while transparency and accountability has been his watch word which can be attested to by the regular payment of monthly stipends to ex agitators and militants under going training.”

“General Boroh also contributed immensely to the ceasefire agreement in 2016 which led to increase in the crude oil production to 2.2million barrels which is being contributed to the nation economic recovery being enjoyed by the country describing those calling for his sack as “evil and desperate people”who have lost touch with the reality on ground on the Amnesty programme and activities in the Niger Delta Region.”

They urged President Muhamnadu Buhari to ignore such calls for the removal of Boroh, saying the calls were coming from some quarters of “corrupt personalities who are desperate and bent on sponsoring non existent militant groups to forge baseless stories” adding that General Boroh has restored confidence and hope in the PAP.

“We use this opportunity to urge the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun not to delay the release of funds for the payment of monthly stipends to ex-militants in order to sustain the existing peace in the creek of Niger Delta.

“And if the federal government and the security agencies refuse to call this evil plotters and disgruntled elements of corrupt minds that are sponsoring various groups that is calling for the removal of Paul Boroh to other then we will be left with no option rather to declare another war in the creek of Niger Delta and whatever that will befall on the wake of this in the creek, we should not be held responsible. A word is enough for the wise”
