Tinubu ‘Lives Modestly’, Walks to Office, Eats Once Daily — Revenue Boss

The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, has dismissed concerns over the alleged lavish lifestyles of Nigerian political leaders, insisting that President Bola Tinubu does not live extravagantly despite occupying the country’s highest office.

Adedeji made the claim during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, where journalist Seun Okinbaloye questioned him about the lifestyles of political office holders amid Nigeria’s rising cost of living and economic challenges.

According to the revenue boss, Tinubu often walks from his residence to his office and only uses a vehicle when travelling to the airport.

He further claimed that the President eats just once a day and had not travelled outside Nigeria in the past three months.

“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport. I don’t know where you see the convoy. Before he became president, what is he riding?” Adedeji said.

Reacting to questions about the number of luxury Cadillac Escalades reportedly attached to the presidential convoy, Adedeji challenged the criticism, arguing that the President could afford such vehicles.

“How much is an Escalade that the president of Nigeria cannot afford? Please don’t embarrass this country,” he said.

Adedeji also questioned what he described as the perception that Tinubu lives a lavish lifestyle, pointing to the President’s official activities and limited foreign travel.

“What is living large? In the last months, he has not even left the shores of this country, trekking and working,” he said.

The remarks come amid growing public debate over government expenditure, official convoys and the lifestyles of political leaders at a time when many Nigerians are struggling with rising food prices, transportation costs and other economic pressures.
